Easy Ways Keep Heat from Escaping Your Chelan and Wenatchee Home

January 15, 2016

Keeping your home warm through the Chelan and Wenatchee winters is critical to your health and comfort. While you may not be able to entirely ignore the dropping temperature outside, there are ways that your comfort can be achieved easily and without fretting about cold drafts. With annually scheduled furnace service, you can help keep all the heat from your furnace in your home and cut back on your monthly energy bills. It’s valuable to know all the ways in which heat (and your winter comfort) can leak from your home, so here are some of the more common forms we catch at Lakeside Heating & Air:

  1. Lack of attic insulation – the older the home, the more outdated the insulation could be. Older insulation can fade quicker and cause those seepages of heat, which could then mean that your furnace is working harder than it should. Inspecting your insulation in your attic to see if it is installed properly can demonstrate if you need more insulation and keep away from potential future furnace repair.

  2. Window or door gaps – gaps or holes aren’t always apparent to the naked eye or great enough to feel cold drafts through, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t around. Weatherstripping can be an easy fix and can do the same thing as increasing attic insulation – preparing your furnace to not drive as hard and reducing the odds of needing furnace repair.

  3. Losing heat from the glass of your windows – hot air and cold glass are an interesting mix. The hot air loses some of its heat when it reaches a cold surface and conveys the feeling of “heat escaping” from the home. Sealing window drapes during the evening hours and opening drapes during luminous, daylight hours in the winter can help decrease this heat loss.

While these might not be the only causes of why your home is using up heat, there is a good chance that one of these circumstances could be your reality. But lucky for you, our professionals at Lakeside Heating & Air are here to supply you with more advice to keep your home warm and comfortable all winter-long.
